A Guide to Downtown Roanoke Rapids

This riverside town in Halifax County is surrounded by outdoor adventures, but the best way to start exploring is a simple stroll down charming and historic Roanoke Avenue.

Weldon Mills Distillery

Right down the street from the Hotel/Retail center of Roanoak Rapids.

Roanoke Canal

Historic canal. 200 years of history.  In Roanoke Rapids.

Sylvan Heights Bird Park

We don’t know if there any bird watchers coming to the nationals, but just in case, this might be for you.  About 40 minutes from Roanoke Rapids.

Raleigh, NC

If you are flying into RDU or traveling in from the west on I-40, Raleigh is a unique city to visit.  Try Poole’s Diner downtown, The Pit, or any one of dozens of great restaurants.  The Museum of Art and the history museums are also top notch.

Colonial Williamsburg

A unique place.  A town frozen in time.  Great food and history.  Visit the Magazine.  About two hours from Roanoke Rapids.

Chesapeake, VA area

Civil War and colonial history in one place and the U.S.S.. Wisconsin not far away in Norfolk.  About 1.5 hours from Roanoke Rapids.

Historic Halifax

Just a few miles up the river from Roanoke Rapids, Halifax is the site where the Halifax Resolves were signed, starting the wave of colonial revolution.

Edenton, NC

Beautiful and historic town on the Albermarle Sound.  About 1.5 hours form Roanoke Rapids

Richmond, VA

From capitol of the Confederacy to modern city.  If you fly into Richmond or are driving through and have time, stop and take a look.  There’s lots to check out.
